Mount Olive is a practical western Morris County base for recreation, family activities, business travel and exploring the New Jersey Highlands. The park includes a measured half-mile loop road, approximately 1.5 miles of asphalt walking paths and access to the township's local trail network.
The large playground adds a dedicated family recreation area inside Turkey Brook Park. Seasonal splash recreation operates separately and can be affected by maintenance or weather.
The park includes a large dog park with a separate smaller-dog area. Dogs must remain leashed elsewhere in the park and are not permitted on athletic fields.
Soccer, football, baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis/pickleball, basketball and volleyball facilities make Turkey Brook a major regional sports complex.
The pond and surrounding open-space area provide a quieter landscape within the larger recreation complex.
Turkey Brook hosts seasonal recreation, township festivals and the annual Mount Olive Carnival. Event parking and facility closures can differ from ordinary park use.
Turkey Brook Park is open sunrise to sunset.
Swimming, hunting and ATVs are not permitted in the park. Park facilities can also close temporarily for maintenance, weather or major township events.
Budd Lake
Budd Lake is Mount Olive's signature natural feature and the community's historic focal point, but public recreation conditions need to be understood before planning a lake visit.
Budd Lake became a popular summer destination during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with hotels, camps, cottages and lake recreation shaping the surrounding community.
Much of the shoreline is residential or private. Visitors should not assume a road end, beach, dock or waterfront parcel is open to the public.
Water quality, algae, weather and other lake conditions can affect recreation. Always check current township and state information before planning water activities.
Budd Lake Beach Park is closed until further notice.
The township's current official page continues to list the municipal beach as closed. NJTGO therefore does not recommend it as a swimming destination. Visitors looking for public swimming or boating should use current regional state-park and recreation resources instead.

Mount Olive's cultural landscape combines historic villages, preserved buildings, canal history and one of Morris County's most unusual small theaters.

Mount Olive Station & getting around
Mount Olive is primarily a driving destination, but the township also has NJ Transit rail service near Waterloo Valley Road and International Drive.
The station is served by NJ Transit's Montclair-Boonton and Morris & Essex service groups. Service frequency varies by timetable and day.
NJ Transit currently lists 23 standard spaces and 2 accessible spaces in the Waterloo Road lot, with no fee for residents or nonresidents.
NJ Transit currently lists nighttime parking as allowed at the station. Visitors should still observe posted signs and current station advisories.
A car is still the easiest way to visit Mount Olive.
Turkey Brook Park, Flanders Valley, Budd Lake, hotels, restaurants and nearby state parks are spread across a large township and are not all within practical walking distance of the rail station.
